How to Choose Your Essential Oil.

Essential oils have been divided into 3 sections by current aromatherapists: "top notes", "middle notes" or "base notes" depending on their aromatic qualities.

The top note oils are the lightest, most stimulating and energizing oils and have a fresh, immediately apparent quality. They are intense, but fleeting, due to their fast evaporation rate.

The top note oils are:
Basil
Bergamot
Eucalyptus
Lemon
Lemongrass
Orange
Peppermint
Pine

The middle note oils usually form the bulk of fragrance blends; meanwhile, they are strong, lasting and potent - not as bright as the top notes, or solid as the base notes. Their fragrance emerges shortly after the top note's first impression.

The middle note oils are:

Chamomile
Fennel
Geranium
Juniper
Lavender
Nutmeg
Rosemary
Tea Tree

The base note oils are the slowest to evaporate; at the same time, their rich, heavy scents emerge slowly and linger. They form the base of the fragrance and give it staying power.

The base note oils are:

Cedarwood
Clove
Jasmine
Patchouli
Rose
Sandalwood
Vetiver

    The Usage of Essential Oil

    The Usage of Essential oil

The following information provides you about the different usage of essential oils.

    External

    • Baths
Aromatherapy baths have been employed for pleasure and therapeutic purposes for thousands of years. Hippocrates, the Father of Western Medicine, mentioned that ' that way to health is to have an aromatic bath and a scented massage every day'. Baths were particularly enjoyed by the ancient Egyptians who had public baths; at the same time, they present the important aspect of social life. Water itself is therapeutic; " water cures' are advocated by naturopaths, and various forms of hydrotherapy can be found in use nowadays at health farms and natural therapy centres.
    • Hydrotherapy baths and Jacuzzi
Some people, nowadays, have their own Jacuzzi or hydrotherapy baths. Use the same number of drops as you would in a normal bath. Sprinkle in you essential oils after the bath has been filled.
    • Footbaths and handbaths
Footbaths and handbaths are highly beneficial in situations where it is impractical to enjoy a full aromatherapy bath, especially for aged and disabled people. Footbaths are incredibly relaxing at the end of a long, hard day especially. They are excellent for foot conditions such as athlete's foot and pain and swelling in the feet. Handbaths help to relieve the pain, stiffness and swelling from arthritis.
    • Sitz baths and bidets
