Dr. Back intended the use of the remedies to be straightforward and simple enough for all to understand. Simplicity was his key word and it was with this firmly uppermost is his mind that he wrote. Dr. Bach classified the 38 remdies as under seven headings:
- Fear
Rock Rose, Mimulus, Cherry Plum, Aspen, Red Chestnut - Uncertainty
Cerato, Scleranthus, Gentian, Gorse, Hornbeam, Wild Oat. - Insufficient interest in present circumstances
Clematis, Honeysuckle, Wild Rose, Olive, White chestnut, Mustard, Chestnut Bud. - Loneliness
Water Violet, Impatiens, Heather - Those over sensitive influence and ideas
Agrimony, Centaury, Walnut, Holly - Despondency or despair
Larch, Pine, Elm, Sweet Chestnut, Star of Bechlehem, Willow, Oats, Crab Apple. - For over-care for welfare of others Chicory, Vervain, Vine, Beech, Rock Water.
Each Herb has its function, as follows:
- agrimony
for those who hide their mental torture hehind a happy, smiling face. - aspen
for fear of an unknown orign - beech
for those who are unable to tolerate other people's shortcomings - centaury
for the weak willed who find it impossible to say'no' - cerato
for those who doubt their own judgement and constantly seek advice and reassurance from ohters. - cherry plum
for fear of losing one's one's mind and harming oneself and others. - chestnut bud
for those who repeatedly make the same mistakes. - chicory
for those who are selfish, over-possessive and clinging - clematis
for those who are daydreamers, absent-minded and lack interest in the present - crab Apple
to cleanse the mind and body of anything which we do not like - elm
for those who at times are overshelmed by responsibilities at work aor home - gentian
for depression froma known cause and self-dout. - gorse
for those who are filled with utter hopelessness and despare - Heater
for those who are totally self-centred, talking incessantly about their problems, leaving their listeners exhausted and depleted. - Holly
for envy, hatred, jealousy, suspicion and revenge. - honeysuckle
for those who cling to thepast, dwelling upon memories both happy and sad - hornbeam
for that 'Monday morning' feeling - impatiens
for impatience, irritability and restlessness - larch
for fear of failure and lack of confidence - mimulus
for fear of a known origin - mustard
for black depression from an unkown cause - oak
for those who struggle on in the face of adversity until they 'drop' - olive
for those who are absolutely physically or mentally exhausted. - pine
for a quilt complex and self-reproach. - red chestnut
for excessive fear and concern for others - rock rose
for terror, panic and extreme fright. - rock water
for those who try to set the 'perfect example' for others and deny themselves the simple pleasures in life - scleranthus
for indecisivenessand mood swings - star of bethlehem
to ease the after effects of a mental or physical shock - sweet chestnut
for those who suffer utter despair and are unableto see the light at ehe end of the tunnel - vervain
for those who'live' on their nerves and are incensed by injustice - vine
for those who are domineering, strong, inflexible who take the leading role - walnut
for change (teething , puberty, menopause) and for protection against outside influences. - water violet
for those who are gentle and pround, preferring their own company. - white chestnut
for persistent, unwanted thoughts that go round and round in the mind. - wild oat
for those who unfulfilled and dissatisfied and cannot find their true pathway - wild rose
for apathy and resignation in life - willow
for resentment and vbitterness and feeling'hard done by'
rescue remedy
is the most widely used of all the flower remedies and is for emergencies and traumatic situations; it contains five or the thirty-eight remedies.
Rescue Remedy is for first aid remedies:
- Star of Bethlehem for Shock
- Rock Rose- for great fear and panic
- Impatiens for mental and physical tension when the sufferer cannot relax; the mind agitated and irritable.
- Cherry plum- for loss of emotional control, when the sufferer screams, shouts or becomes hysterical.
- Clematis-Remedy the the bemused, distant feeling which often precedes a faint.
